Although he develops the series The Eddy for Netflix, Oscar winner Damien Chazelle (The City of Stars, La La Land) is already starting to piece together for Babylon, his next film as director. According to Deadline, several studios are trying to get hold of it, a period drama set in Hollywood that could also feature Emma Stone (Zombieland 2) as the protagonist.
Babylon will not be a musical, but it will be a “bold author’s film with a significant budget”. The action takes place in Hollywood during the 1920s and revolves around the revolution that the industry experienced when moving from silent films to sound films. The film, for which both Emma Stone and Brad Pitt sound, will mix real and fictional characters like Once Upon a Time … in Tarantino’s Hollywood.
So far, First Man, with Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy, is Chazelle’s latest work behind the scenes. This had good reviews, but failed to match the data at the box office of La La Land -105 million raised against the 446 million of the city of stars.
On The Eddy, which still has no confirmed premiere date Netflix, will be headed by the interpreters André Holland (Moonlight) and Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give) and, with the city of Paris in the background, will focus on the owner of a jazz club with a tight relationship with his daughter.
