One wellness coach has come up with exercises we all should be doing to live a healthier and happier life.
Kym Ventola, who founded Nine Women’s Business retreat, recently revealed her new plan for helping people be happier and healthier in life. She is also a business and wellness coach, so she has experience when it comes to living the best you.
Her self-care exercises are not only easy to do but make sense when you think about her strategy behind the idea. Ventola suggests we all need to start by identifying the four areas of life that burn us out. She calls it the Four Burner exercise. All you have to do is draw four circles on a piece of paper and label them family, friends, health, and career. These are the areas of life Ventola says cause people to get burnt out the most.
Then she said each one of us needs to figure out which two burners to turn off. Her theory is you can’t sustain a healthy happy life when all four burners are going strong. The focus will change as the areas you are concentrating on will vary. For example, if you want to focus on family and health, then you need to scale back the time you spend on career and friends. One suggestion could be cutting back on happy hours with friends or making sure you leave work on time.
Now it is important to remember Ventola isn’t saying cut two of your burners out; she merely wants us to focus on two at a time. The exercise is adjustable which is why she says it is one people should regularly do as a self-check-in. It is not always going to be easy to scale back on two of your burners, but the task is to stay focused on the two you choose. Something has to give, or you will get burnt out.
The best part is there is no correct way to do this exercise because it is all about your personal needs. No one, not even a coach like Ventola can tell you what is right for you but doing these exercises is an excellent way to start trying to lead a healthier and happier life.
